On September 12, 2023, Cisco announced the end-of-sale (EOS) dates for the HyperFlex Data Platform (HXDP) Software. Cisco HyperFlex is a hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) solution that combines computing, storage, and networking into a single platform. HXDP software is used to run a wide range of applications, including virtual machines, databases, and containerised applications.

Cisco will no longer sell new HXDP software licenses after September 11, 2024.

Migration Options

There are a few different options available to customers who are currently running HXDP software:

  • Upgrade to the latest version of HXDP software. Cisco will continue to support the latest version of HXDP software for some time after the EOS announcement. This is the most straightforward option, but it may not be the best option for all customers.
  • Migrate to Cisco Compute Hyperconverged with Nutanix on qualified HyperFlex M6 hardware and with the purchase of a new Nutanix software license. This is a new solution from Cisco and Nutanix that offers a similar level of functionality as HXDP software. Cisco Compute Hyperconverged with Nutanix is a good option for customers who want to migrate to a new HCI platform without having to rip and replace their existing hardware.
  • Migrate to a different HCI platform from another vendor. There are a number of other HCI platforms available, such as VMware vSAN, Dell EMC VxRail, and NetApp HCI. Customers should choose an HCI platform that meets their specific needs and requirements.

Cisco and Nutanix Partnership

Cisco and Nutanix have partnered to offer a smooth migration path for HXDP customers. Customers can migrate from HyperFlex to Cisco Compute Hyperconverged with Nutanix on selected HyperFlex M6 hardware, provided they purchase a new Nutanix software license.

In Conclusion

While HXDP is reaching its end-of-life, Cisco ensures a smooth transition, whether you decide to migrate, continue, or repurpose your existing infrastructure. It’s recommended to stay in close contact with your Cisco account team for further clarifications and best steps forward.
